It happens to the best of us- stepping into a salon and expecting to walk out with an amazing haircut and style. While some end up with stunning hairdos, others aren’t quite sure how to deal with anunexpected chop!
To start with- try to be as positive as you can about the situation. Not only will it help you wrap your head around your hair conundrum, but you can also use this as a learning opportunity to style your hair. If you’ve suffered the nightmare of a bad haircut because a hair stylist thinks she knows what looks good on you, try to deal with the situation. Sure that half an inch trim turned into 4 inches and you’re ready to lift up your sleeves to start a fired up argument, but remember time will pass and your hair will grow out again!
Whether its too short, uneven or just wrong on all levels, its time to bring out all of your hair styling tools and products to practice a few new looks. By all means do not try to fix your hair on your own! Its better to leave your hair as is and just wait for it to grow out.
Too Short
If its too short- try to wait 1-2 weeks for your ends to grow a bit to gain back some texture. Blunt cut ends needs a bit of time to grow out for the ends to look more natural and to give it some movement. If its too too short- experiment with hair styling products to create an edgy hair style.
Straightening your hair is another option- the flatiron will stretch your hair at least half an inch or more. If you have a bit of length to play with, experiment with french braiding your hair with a lot of hair gel until it grow out.
Uneven Hair Length
If one side of your hair is shorter than the other, you could go back to the salon and speak to the manager to get it fixed. Ask for a different stylist.
If you don’t have to time to get it fixed from the hair stylist, try out a no heat hair curling method. Curling your hair is your safest bet. The easiest is to place a headband on your hair and wrap your hair into the headband. Sleep with it in and wake up to soft curls. Curling you hair will allow your uneven strands to hide out.
Awkward Layers
If your layers are at awkward lengths, you can go for a shorter hair cut to get to get rid of the layers all together. If your stuck with horrible layers, try accessorizing!
Use hair clips, barrettes, jeweled hairpins and headbands to hide your uneven layers. Brush a few sections of hair from the crown and clip in some hairpins.
Before You Visit a Hair Salon:
Its always recommended to take a photo of the haircut you want- another way of avoiding a bad haircut is to take a photo of a hairstyle that you do NOT want. Since all hair stylists have a different way of visualizing a hair style, showing them a photo of a hairstyle you don’t want will avoid that.
