How to Cover Up a Bad Hairstyle

It happens to the best of us- stepping into a salon and expecting to walk out with an amazing haircut and style. While some end up with stunning hairdos, others aren’t quite sure how to deal with anunexpected chop!
To start with- try to be as positive as you can about the situation. Not only will it help you wrap your head around your hair conundrum, but you can also use this as a learning opportunity to style your hair. If you’ve suffered the nightmare of a bad haircut because a hair stylist thinks she knows what looks good on you, try to deal with the situation. Sure that half an inch trim turned into 4 inches and you’re ready to lift up your sleeves to start a fired up argument, but remember time will pass and your hair will grow out again!
Whether its too short, uneven or just wrong on all levels, its time to bring out all of your hair styling tools and products to practice a few new looks. By all means do not try to fix your hair on your own! Its better to leave your hair as is and just wait for it to grow out.

Center Part Hairstyles

Sick of side-swept bangs? Here are some helpful hints on how to convert your generic, overdone side-swept bangs to a new hairstyle trend: the center part.

A center part can make your hair look flat or unkempt if not styled properly. To prevent your hair from looking like it was back when you were in middle school, give some of these looks a try:

Headband
A cute way to change up your look is by adding a headband over your center part. It's easy and manageable, and looks especially chic with sleek, straight hair. The headband prevents the top of your head from looking flat.

Blow Dried
Grab a large, round boar bristle hairbrush and aim the dryer down through sections of your hair as you pull on them with the brush from underneath. Turn the brush and concentrate the heat on your ends for a slight curl or wave. Finish off by pulling your dampened bangs over your head and back as you dry them.

Beehive Updo
This hairstyle is a great way to show off your bangs with a center part. The part keeps your head from looking too steep and the side bangs frame your face. Best part: It looks good from every angle!

Twists
This style, made popular by Lauren Conrad, is simple and girly. Simply part your bangs down the center and grab your bangs plus a small section of hair from the front of your head, and twist it back around the sides of your head. Secure with bobby pins. (Note: looks best with wavy hair)

Off-Center
If you've had side bangs for a while and are having trouble getting your bangs to suddenly part in the center, try parting them slightly off-center and eventually train your hair. Also, remember that your center part does not need to be a pin-straight line, front and center on your head.

Desi Bridal
A center part is a good idea for a bridal hairstyle because it works nicely with the teeka. It gives a vintage look, while also securing the piece so you don't have to worry about it staying centered throughout the event. (I'm sure you would have plenty of other things to be worried about.)

Loose Curls
Loose curls or waves add texture to your hair to keep it from looking lifeless (a center part can often result in this). Be sure not to make the curls too tight or too high on your head.

Braided Updo
This updo is both classy and trendy. It's perfect for a wedding, espcially when you have kaam on the back or neck of your shirt that would otherwise be covered (or when you don't want those earrings you spent a fortune on to go hidden).

Haircuts suited to the face shape

Fashion cannot be followed blindly! Especially with hairstyles, you should always see what suits your facial features . An amazing hairstyle that might look good on a model may not necessarily look good for you.

Hair Style for An Oval face Shape
The oval face is the perfect face. Almost any hairstyle will go with it, whether it is long or short, straight or curly. If you have an oval face, you will do well with having layers near your chin or cheekbones to draw attention to them. However, try to avoid hairstyles that add volumes to the top of your head ? it will make your face look longer.

Hair Style for A round face Shape
Since you have a nice round face, see that your hair is cut onto your cheeks to shade them and narrow down the sides. A shoulder length cut will help make your face look longer and slimmer. Avoid fringes and curls. A soft feathery look is the most flattering. Straight long hair gives a stunning effect!

Hair Style for A Long face Shape
Your beautiful long face can be made to look less long with fringes, soft half-fringes or a chin-length cut which is fuller at the bottom, add width. Anything but a long straight bob, which will make you appear even more long faced and pulls down your whole appearance.

Hair Style for A heart-shaped face
Since you have a beautiful heart-shaped face, softness at the temples and fullness just below the ear level suits you the best. Avoid a center parting, as it tends to emphasize your pointed chin, instead part your hair on one side or wear it without a parting. If your hair is short, turn the ends inwards.

Hair Style for A Square face Shape
Fringes and curls flicked forward help to soften 'corners' of you square face. Cut your hair short at the temples. Avoid symmetry, short crops or anything geometric. Make sure your hair has body, if necessary go in for a soft perm.

Different Hair Styles for Women

Choosing a hairstyle depends on various factors. An important factor is the shape of your face. And of course your own unique personality and your life style is also a major element. If you wash, condition and style your hair every morning, a short cut may be best for you. If you have plenty of time for hair care you may prefer to wear your hair long. The distribution, quantity and texture of your hair, the curliness or straightness and your height are the other important factors for choosing a hair style.

And, as far as beauty is concerned, hair care is most important for a man. A man's personality is judged not only by the way he carries himself but also by the hairstyles he sports. The hair-styles of Bollywood and Hollywood heroes are in demand at hair saloons. Even though hairstyles have constantly changed, Bollywood celebrities such as Abhishekh Bachchan, Amir Khan, Saif Ali Khan etc have greatly influenced Indian men to think differently.

If you wish to change your hairstyle, visit a good and experienced hairstylist who would give you a trendy haircut. And when going about with the styling of hair, you have to consider the most important factor is, the shape or structure of the face.

Men, like women, can have the following face shapes.

Different hairstyles to suit the shape of your face

Round face

  • Women

A round face will look best with hairstyles that add angles and helps conceal broad, round cheeks. For persons who have short hair, it is better to have a cut with most of the hair on top and less on sides. For long hair, an hairstyle with curls or waves surrounding the face will be better.

  • Men

Men with round faces should keep short hairstyles or wispy cut that sweep back away from the face. Use a product to add a little height to your hairstyle.

Square face

  • Women

A square jaw and brow are best softened by a curly or wavy hair style that rounds off the angles of your face. Curls or waves worn forward on the outer edges of your face from your forehead will be more suited for a square face.

  • Men

Square face shapes men should keep any styles that is cleanly cut around the ears and mirrors your square face. A short spiky hair cut as well as any sleek style is good for a square face shape.

An oval face

  • Women

An oval shaped face is generally recognized as the ideal face shape by hair experts. This can be enhanced by a variety of simple hairstyles from long hairstyles to medium hairstyles to short hairstyles. Your hairstyle will be most pleasing, if you wear it straight or slightly wavy. Short or long styles will look best when brushed or held back from your face.

According to the activities that you enjoy you may wish to wear your hair shorter instead of pulling it back to enjoy participating in sports or keeping your hair out of the way for most activities. To get an example of celebrities with oval shape faces and the variety of hairstyles that look great on them, take a look at Isha Deol, Madhuri Dixit, Urmila Matonkar etc.

  • Men

A classic oval shaped face looks great with all styles. Try changing the part. However a longer hair styles with a few graduated layers around the face gives a strong masculine signature.

Triangular face

  • Women

It's a rare type. The best hairstyle for this shape face are those worn away from your face at your forehead and temples and softly waved or curled around the jaws or those worn full at your temples, with straight or waved bangs across the width of your forehead.

  • Men

Men should try hair cropped close to head. The hair should be layered all around and tapered in back and at the sides.

Diamond face

Diamond face is widest at the cheekbones, has narrow forehead and jaw line of approximately equal width.

  • Women

Diamond shaped face women can try almost all variety hairstyles but should avoid hairstyle that hides the prominent features of the face.

  • Men

Fill out the face at the temples and chin and keep hair close to the head at the widest points. Curl and fullness at the chin area and just above the temples are necessary to round out the look. Avoid styles that mirror the diamond shape.

Heart-shaped

Heart shaped face is wide at the temples and hairline and a narrow chin.

  • Women

Heart -shaped face women should choose a style that takes the emphasis off both areas. Try a short hairstyle that is wedged or or tapered at the neck or a long hair style. Avoid short hairstyles.

Identifying Your Hair Type

Everyone's hair reacts differently to different products and environment, but hair of the same type generally responds in similar ways. There are two systems of classification; Andre Walker's classification system and Fia's Hair Typing System.

Walker's system is geared specifically toward African-descended hair types, so this is based on finding your hair type using Fia's Hair Typing System because it applies to everyone who has hair regardless of heritage. There are three main classifiers for hair type that tell the amount of wave or curl, the thickness of each individual strand, and the thickness of all the hair put together. If you find someone who matches you on all these classifiers, you've found a valuable "hair twin" whose experiences can help you determine how your hair will respond to various elements.

The First Hair Type Classifier

The first classifier determines how much body wave or curl your hair has. To determine this, take a shower and then allow your hair to air dry flat (not in a towel or styled in any way). Once dry, take a close look at your hair. Is it absolutely flat and straight? You're a 1a. If there's a little bit of body to it but no discernible wave, 1b; two or three slight waves but still straight overall, 1c; has some loose waves, 2a; fairly distinct waves, 2b; very distinct waves, possibly with a few spiral curls, 2c; lots of loose spiral curls, 3a; tighter, bouncy curls, 3b; really tight spiral curls all over, 3c; tight S-curls, 4a; really tight S-curls falling in odd, zigzag patterns, 4b.

Now you know the first part of your hair type. Some people fall between the classifying categories and that's fine, it just means that your hair will be defined by both categories that describe it. For instance, if you have some body to your hair but only one visible wave, you're a 1b/1c. The third classifier is the only one that can not have split categories.

The Second Hair Type Classifier

The second classifier denotes the thickness of individual strands of your hair. Take a single strand of your hair, make sure it's clean (if it's been through a brush or comb it might not be) or the type may be skewed. Fine hair is barely visible if you hold it in front of your eyes, hardly shows up against a contrasting background and can barely be felt if you roll it between two fingers. Medium hair is easily visible, easily felt between the fingers, but still feels soft...it will feel similar to cotton thread when you roll it. Course hair is thicker, much easier to see against a background and may feel wiry but rarely ever slippery.

The Final Hair Type Classifier

The third and final classifier determines the overall thickness of your entire head of hair. This one is very difficult to measure if your hair is too short to gather into a ponytail, though a guess can be made by how thick your hair is against the scalp. If it's long enough, gather all your hair into a ponytail and measure around the circumference. Thin hair, or i, measures less than two inches around. Normal hair, ii, measures between two and four inches. Thick hair, iii, is anything measuring over four inches around.

Take all the classifiers together, and you have your hair type. It will look something like 1c/F/iii (substituting your own categories) when you're finished. You can now compare your hair to others using hair type as a reference; some websites also sell hair products based on hair type, so keep this as a handy reference so you can always know what kind of hair is being referred to.

Curly Hair Style

It's true, curly hair can sometimes need a bit more care and attention than straight hair to keep it looking its best. Not every stylist knows how to cut curly hair. Ask various salons if they have someone who specializes in curly haircuts. Curly hair needs to be cut wet so you can see the natural shape.Give your naturally wavy hair more defined curls. Take small sections of your hair while its damp, and roll them up into little balls.Whether you have natural curls or got them in the salon, you'll need to know the right way to care for them. Most straight-haired girls would love to have a head full of curls. At these times women are changing from their flat-irons and opting for a hair diffuser and making the most of beautiful natural curly hair
Hair cut & face look:
Choosing the right hair cut for your face is very important.Firstly, you need to determine your facial structure- do you have an oval face, square face or heart-shaped face? The type of hair style you can wear is best determined by the shape of your face and head. By knowing the shape of your face before you visit the hair salon can help you avoid ending up with a bad hair cut.

Common Mistakes:
Regularly washing your hair strips it of essential oils and can leave it dry and brittle.trimmed every 5 weeks helps to maintain the condition of your hair and its style.Shampoo and conditioner that is not thoroughly rinsed out of the hair is the worst culprit for bad hair days.Using the right product will help to recreate that special salon style.. Using a clarifying shampoo once a week will give hair a residue free fresh start.

Tip # 1:
Ever wonder why your hair isn't as shiny or bouncy as those ads, in spite of using the same shampoo? It is no wonder, with the way most of us treat our hair- tugging at it with a hair brush, using elastic bands, blasting it with a hot hair dryer, roughly washing it, slathering lots of products through it.Curl the brush under at the ends to achieve a slight bend. Continue until the back sections are completely dry and then repeat on the top sections of hair.

Tip # 2:
If your hair starts looking lank, then simply put it up. Not only will this vary your look, it'll keep your hair protected from the wind and other damaging elements. And if it's really, really oily, sprinkle a small amount of talcum powder onto your scalp, as this will absorb the oil for several hours until you next shampoo. In addition, using your conditioner as though it were a shampoo - as in, massaging it into your scalp and rinsing

Hair Cut Style and Hair Style Advices

The best way to recognize a great cut? It's still easy to style 6 weeks after you got it.

To choose a hairstyle that will suit your features:

* If you have a big nose, draw attention away from it with plenty of volume at the crown.
* If you have a double or small chin, choose a bob that's shorter at the nape and longer at the front.
* If you have long face, try a substantial fringe and a style that finishes above the chin.
* If you have long nose and long chin, avoid creating more length by wearing hair away from the face, with a side parting.

Common Hair Cut Mistakes:

Most bad haircuts are the result of styles cut in disproportion to the shape of the head and contrary to hair texture.

* Pineapple - The top is cut too short in relation to the rest of the hair.
* Mop Top - The top layers are left too long.
* Hockey Player - The hair in the back is too long for the sides.
* Shred Head - Hair is unevenly layered.
* Mamie Eisenhower - Bangs are cut too short.
* Symmetrically Challenged - One side is longer than the other.

How to Avoid a Bad Hair Cut:

* Visit only the stylist whom you trust.
* Don't try a hairdresser on a whim.
* Go with someone recommended.
* Have a thorough discussion with your stylist.
* If you are visiting a stylist for the first time, show pictures of yourself in past styles.
* Bring photos of models and celebrities whose hairstyles you like.

How to Disguise a Bad Hair Cut:

* If your bangs are too short, go even shorter. Cut bangs into spikes and use gel to accentuate the pointy look.
* If you are not satisfied with your short style, apply pomade or gel to wet hair and blow dry from beneath to add volume.
* Tousle your hair with your fingers to change the profile of the cut.
* If you are not satisfied with classic bob, put motion into the style.

According to a study carried out at Yale University , people perceive women wearing short haircuts to be confident and outgoing.

Short hair is glamourous. It emphasizes femininity. Your hair looks thicker and glossier. It's easy to manage and you look younger.

Short hair needs to be trimmed every 4-6 weeks to keep it looking its best.

Short hair means you have less hair to fight with! Shorter hair dries quicker on its own and keeps split ends to a minimum.

Determine your face shape before you choose a new short style.

Oval or heart-shaped faces suit short looks.

Round and square faces require longer pieces in back or wisps around the face.

Go short if you have small features. Anyone with a petite mouth and nose looks great with short hair.

Hairstyles for Medium Hair Lengths

Medium hairstyles offer comfortable hair length that is not too long and not too short. These hairstyles vary between long hairstyles and short hair styles. Some of the choicest long hairstyles as well as short hair styles can be conceived with medium hair. The bob is a great sample of a medium haircut that can go shorter or a little longer for several different hair styles.

From letting it flow down, bunning it up, to curling up the ends, mid-length hairstyles offer a variety of beautiful hairdos. These hairstyles are a favorite choice of many people because there are safer looks less bothersome to manage and are increased in complimentary value for many facial shapes. From cute to pretty to formal, these hairstyles are very versatile. Hairstyles with hair length to the shoulders or a tiny bit above them bring out many facial features with many options for styling. The bob, the shag, and the straight cut are some popular mid-length hairstyles. Many variations of these hairstyles are available. Because mid-length hair is extremely adaptable, there are various methods to add perceptible flair and change to them to create totally dissimilar hairstyles.

One of the easiest ways is changing the layout of the hair. Changing from straight to curly to wavy using Caruso brand hair setters, CHI hair straighteners, or hair wavers can devise completely varying, hot looks. Changing the arrangement of bangs can invent news style as well. Medium hairstyles with slightly swept bangs still appear quite fashionable. Small curls at the tips of bangs or side sweeps can deliver very elegant hairstyles for grandiose occasions as well. A prime example of these looks can be found in the many hairstyles of Nicole Ritchie which use a number of distinctive fringe molding techniques for extra panache.

Hair Styles

When choosing a hairstyle one should always consider whether or not the hair style will suit your face shape. Many woman change their hair styles according to latest fashion trends while others maintain their same old styles as every individual has unique face cut, hair type and hair color. You can change your hairstyle according to the occasion.

For a square face choose a hair style with long layers preferably one with soft waves or curls, as these create a softness that detracts from the hard lines. Those with a square jaw line can take the edge off with a softening style that features side parting and longer hair at the nape of neck. A must avoid is a center parting or straight cut hair around the jaw line or even square bangs on the forehead. These geometric lines will only accentuate the strong structure of a square face even more.

For a oval face: Oval Shape is regarded by many experts as the perfect face shape. If your face is oval in shape, then you have the advantage of being able to wear any hair style you choose. Oval faces are considered perfect for hairstyling and afford a lot of experimentation to the stylist too. However, much depends on the quality of hair one has: thin, lush, wavy, straight, silky etc. Oval faces look good with a haircut that adds volume to the top of head to slim down the forehead. Such faces would smartly avoid hairstyles that include spikes, short topsides or too much volume on the sides.

For a round face choose a style with a short fringe, which lengthens the face and a short cut which makes the face look thinner. Round faces can add a bit of volume to the top of the head to slim down. Avoid spiky and short topside styling to your hair and any haircut that gives width or volumizes the sides of your face.

For a long face choose a style with short layers or go for a bob with a fringe which will create horizontal lines. Scrunch dried or curly bobs balance a long face. Long faces can layer it on for fullness on sides. Such faces must avoid short cuts, jaw-length bobs, or styles that add height on top.

Heart shaped faces have can opt for bangs and a length that frames the jaw line, while avoiding a short hairstyle at the nape
