Eyebrow Shaping

Eyebrow shaping has always been a popular topic of conversation among desi women. As many beauticians will tell you, eyebrows are meant to frame the face and should not be so thick as to take the focus away from the rest of the face, nor too thin (which might look unnatural). Although the perfect eyebrow shape can vary from person to person, here are some general rules I've learned that can apply to everyone:

Keep Them Long
Traditionally, Pakistani women have long, defined eyebrows - and I personally think this suits us best. Longer eyebrows frame the face, compliment the eyes, and give a more youthful look. Just be sure there's a well-spaced gap between the two!

I'm a huge fan of all that
Michelle Obama has done,
but not of her
highly-arched eyebrows.
No Over-Arching
A common mistake many women make is arching their eyebrows too high. It is flattering to have a subtle arch, but it should be farther out towards the outer end of the eyebrow - past the pupil. Quite frankly, arching eyebrows too high or too close to the inner part of the eyebrows makes you look evil. There, I said it.

Trim Regularly
I trim my eyebrows once every 2-3 weeks by lifting the hairs upwards with a small, fine-tooth comb and snipping about 1-2mm. This keeps the eyebrow hairs from 'venturing' out beyond the shape, making them look neat.

Don't Go Too Thin
Eyebrows that are too thin are unflattering and can make you look older than you want to. Although thickness really depends on your face shape, a general rule to keep in mind is if you have a large forehead, keep your eyebrows a little thicker.
This image of Keira Knightley demonstrates how
eyebrows that are too thin can make you look older.
Symmetry
Try your best to keep your eyebrows symmetrical. With that said, don't obsess over making ever last hair identical with the other side. It is completely natural for eyebrows to be slightly different. The hairs may grow differently on either side, and that's okay. Besides, it's nothing a little makeup can't fix. :) (I will elaborate more on this in a later post.)
