Beauty Tips for Winter & Fall

When the temperature changes, so should your beauty routine. Your hair and skin react differently to cooler climates, so you need to redefine your regimen to get the results you want to see.

If you want to adapt when the weather gets colder, take note of these Fall and Winter beauty tips to keep your skin and hair looking beautiful.

Winter Skin Care
Cold weather means indoor heating which will have an adverse affect on your skin. To combat the drying affects, switch to a heavier moisturizing cream to add much-needed hydration. Lock in moisture by doing this while your face is still wet.

Avoid baths and showers that are too hot, and cool the water before you get out. Your skin will retain more moisture this way and you won't go through the temperature shock so much when you get out. Rub in body lotion on your arms and legs and feet, particularly on your elbows and knees.

Use eye cream at night to combat dryness. If you do this on a regular basis, you'll probably notice a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. Get your beauty sleep to lower stress and put your best face forward.

Homemade Body Scrub
If your hands, feet and elbows are dry, this homemade body scrub will get them back in shape and give soothing relief: Mix a half cup of Epsom salts, one tablespoon olive or canola oil and a few drops of lemon, lime, grapefruit, or orange juice. Apply to the dry areas of your skin, rub gently in a circular motion, then rinse off.

Prevent Chapped Lips
Many women only experience chapped lips in the Fall and Winter months. Avoid licking your lips and use a moisturizing lipstick in the daytime hours and apply lip balm before you go to bed. If you're a teen, enjoy the many lip products on the market for your age group and dazzle your smile.

To remove any unwanted dry skin off of your lips, you can exfoliate them with your toothbrush when you brush your teeth. In a pinch, add a dab of Vaseline to protect them.

Winter Hair Care Tips
Not only does your skin dry out when the weather turns cold, so does your hair. Pay special attention to your hair needs do some damage control with a deep conditioner if you notice it drying out. It only needs to be washed twice a week -- but it's important to wash out any styling products that weigh down your hair. For a quick fix, apply a leave-in conditioner for extra moisture and shine.

Skin Texture Tip: Guava can help you

Guavas can help improve skin texture: Many of you might have tasted this mouth-watering treat, or at least have seen it or heard about it. Guava is very common in Asian countries. It is a good looking pear shaped or round shaped seasonal fruit, light green or yellow or maroon in color from outside when ripe, with white or maroon flesh and lots of small hard seeds enveloping very soft and sweet pulp. It is eaten raw (ripe or semi-ripe) or in form of jams and jellies.

This attractive fruit is a real storehouse of nutrients. If it is "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" in Europe and Americas, it must be "A few guavas in the season keeps the doctor away for the whole year" in the Indian Subcontinent and places where guavas grow. Its scientific name is Psidium Guajava.

Diarrhea & Dysentery: Guava is very rich in astringents (compounds those make your gums feel tighter and fresh after you chew guava leaves or eat a raw guava or use some toothpaste) which binds up loose bowels in diarrhea. These astringents are alkaline in nature and have disinfectant and anti-bacterial properties, thus help cure dysentery by inhibiting microbial growth and removing extra mucus from the intestines. Further, other nutrients in guava, such as vitamin-C, Carotenoids and potassium strengthens and tones up the digestive system and disinfect it. Guava is also beneficial in gastroenteritis due to reasons stated above.

Constipation: Guava is one of the riches sources of dietary fiber. Its seeds, if ingested whole or chewed, serve as excellent laxatives. These two properties of guava help forming bowels, retaining water and clean your intestines and excretory system thoroughly. It is said that single constipation can lead to seventy two types of ailments. It is absolutely true. Every way to your total health goes through proper digestion and more importantly, proper excretion. Guava ensures both of these.

Skin Care: Guavas can help improve your skin texture and avoid skin problems more than the best of beauty creams or skin toner gels can do. This is chiefly due to the abundance of astringents in its fruits (more in immature ones) and in leaves. You can benefit from it either by eating the fruits (this help tighten your muscles apart from your skin) or by washing your skin with the decoction of its immature fruits and leaves. It will tone up and tighten the loosened skin. In addition to the astringents, guava is very-very rich in vitamin-A, B, C and potassium which are very good anti oxidants and detoxifiers and keep your skin glowing and free from aging, wrinkles and other disorders.

High Blood Pressure: Guava helps reduce cholesterol in blood and prevents it from thickening, thereby maintaining fluidity of blood and reducing blood pressure. Studies have shown that food stuffs which lack fiber (such a refined flour) add to blood pressure, due to quick conversion to sugar. Guava, being very rich in fiber and hypoglycemic in nature, helps reduce blood pressure.

Weight Loss: Guava is very helpful for those who want to lose weight without compromising with their intake of proteins, vitamins and fiber. Guava, being very high in roughage and very rich in vitamins, proteins and minerals, but with no cholesterol and less digestible carbohydrates, is very filling and satisfies appetite very easily. Just have a medium sized guava in the lunch and you will not feel hungry till night. But ironically, it helps gaining weight in lean and thin people. This is probably due to its richness in nutrients, which keeps your metabolism right helping proper absorption of nutrients.

Weak Nail Tips

Weak fingernails are defined as nails with a faulty structure. Brittle nails can be caused by environmental factors, by a lack of nutrition or from an underlying medical condition. Psoriasis, Raynaud's disease and certain lung conditions can contribute to brittle nails. You can fix weak nails in just a few steps.

Instructions
Take a biotin supplement each day. Biotin deficiency results in weak nails.

Massage a nail strengthening oil or cream into the nails and cuticles. Use a solution that contains protein. Remove any excess oil from the nail and cuticles with a damp towel. Massaging the area stimulates blood circulation in the nails and encourages growth. This should be done a few times each week.

Apply a clear nail polish designed to strengthen nails. Use a product advertised as preventing splitting, nail cracking and chipping.

Remove nail polish (colored or clear) with a remover that does not contain acetone. Acetone dries out nails and makes them more brittle.

Keep hangnails clipped to prevent brittle nails. Also refrain from biting or picking at nails. Biting and picking at nails causes tears, breaks and prevents nails from growing strong.

Wear rubber gloves when cleaning. Harsh chemicals dry out the nails and make nails more brittle and more likely to break. The chemicals are also detrimental to cuticles.

Perfect Red Lips Tip

Red lips are as much of a classic as the little black dress. Getting the perfect red lips consists of a lot more than just slicking on red lipstick and smacking your lips together, there is an exact formula. To get the perfect red lips you will have to be very precise in every step you take and every movement you make. Read on to find out exactly how to achieve the look of the perfect red lip.

Instructions
Apply the lip conditioner and let it soak in, then wipe it off after about a minute. You don't want your lips to be slick or slippery, the lip conditioner is just to make sure that your lips are soft and that any cracks are no longer visible.

Line your lips with lip liner to avoid any spillage of color onto your skin. Carefully line your lips, start at the bottom and work your way to the top. Be very gentle when lining the cupids bow because that is the curviest part of your lips, it takes a steady hand to do it correctly.

Fill your lips in with the same lip liner you used to line your lips. This will make your color last longer and give you a truer more vibrant shade of red.

Use a lip brush to apply your lipstick. Start at the bottom lip and work your way towards the top lip, use small and gentle strokes because if you make a mistake its extremely difficult to remove red lipstick off of your skin.

Apply red lip gloss. Only smear the lip gloss in the center of your bottom and top lips. This will make your lips look larger and plumper, and of course, the red color is to make the red on your lips last as long as possible.

Acne Skin Care Tip

Most people who suffer from acne always seem to get advice from other people telling them what to do in order to eliminate the condition. In most cases the condition only becomes worse.

For those who suffer from acne and have followed all the different instructions known to help in the cure of acne, do not lose hope as there are steps available that will truly and completely get rid of the acne for good.

Do not sleep with makeup on
Washing off your makeup each night before going to bed is one of the most effective ways of preventing or getting rid of acne. If you sleep with your make up on, it will end up getting into the pores of your skin and block them causing acne to develop.

Choose skin care products wisely
Other than the various treatments that one can use to cure acne, skin care products like creams also have an important role to play to ensure total elimination of acne.

Depending on the type of skin you have, these creams may sometimes worsen the condition. Therefore, before you begin using any of these creams on your face, you must consult your doctor to check on your condition and prescribe the right cream that will work for you.

Eat a well balanced diet
The types of food you eat will definitely have an impact on your health. Avoid junk foods which in most cases are deep fried and very fatty. These will result in weight increase and excessive fat deposits on your body including the skin.

As you know, the leading cause of acne is an excessively oily skin which in most cases is the result of your diet. In order to avoid acne you should eat plenty of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables preferably raw; these may be eaten as salads.

For the most serious cases of acne, surgery or laser treatment can be used as a final option when all else fails.

When you follow these procedures, you will begin the journey that will lead you to acquiring the flawless skin that you have always wished for.

  • Daily Skin Care Regime

Men and women will see a marked improvement in their skin when following a skincare plan. Cleanse, tone and moisturise daily. Exfoliate and use a mask regularly.

Cleanse your face and neck, morning and night. Accumulated dead cells, perspiration and make-up mixed with the grime in the atmosphere, clogs up our pores resulting in a dull and lifeless appearance.

After cleansing use a toner to remove the last traces of cleanser, tighten and tone the pores.

Next apply moisturizer. Pollution, sunlight, harsh weather, air conditioning and central heating dehydrates the skin. This causes dry and dull skin. Two litres of water daily will hydrate your skin internally. You should also add moisture from the outside. A moisturizer will help prevent your skin?s moisture from evaporating into the atmosphere. All skin types need moisturizers.

Extras to ensure a radiant skin
An exfoliant removes dead cells from the skin?s surface. This enhances production of new cells. It improves blood circulation, giving the skin a healthy glow.

Eye creams are designed for the sensitive areas around the eye. Choose one that reduces puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles.

Day and a night creams have different formulations to improve skin elasticity, texture and appearance. During the night your skin needs a special cream to rehydrate and rejuvenate skin cells ensuring you wake up with a refreshed, softer complexion.

When showering use a soapfree body wash. This is gentler on the skin and cuts down on cleaning the shower recess!!

Apply a lotion, or spray on, body moisturizer to your whole body after showering.

Follow this regime and you will have beautiful skin forever

14 Beauty Secrets Every Teen Should Know

There's nothing worse than getting advice from older people, we know, we know, but the truth is some advice is worth taking and keeping, especially when it comes to fun beauty tips. We've been reading fashion magazines and testing beauty products for years. In this time, we've read 1000s of beauty tips, tried 1000s of products, but only a few are worth keeping around. So, here we share with you the 14 things we wish we knew when we were teenagers

  1. Skip the foundation If you have acne the first thing you want to do is slather on the thick foundation. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Foundation is for women over 40. Not only will it cover up your natural beauty, but foundation on a teenager looks anything but natural. Instead, cover up blemishes with concealer, then follow with a powder.
  2. You pat concealer in, you never rub it in We know this from watching the Tyra Banks show. When applying concealer, put a bit on the pad of your middle finger and pat it in. Never rub. Got acne? Pat the concealer on top of it.
  3. Play up your lips or your eyes, never both If you are wearing heavy eye makeup, go for bad word is not allowed lips with just a bit of gloss. Prefer the drama of dark lipstick? Keep face light (stay away from heavy blush) and wear only mascara on your eyes and a light eyeshadow. Don't heavily line your eyes. Play up both and you'll look like a clown.
  4. Less is more Ever notice how some of your friends look best with no makeup at all? No matter your age, too much makeup makes you look worse. If you wear foundation, powder, blush, liner, mascara, eyeshadow, lip liner, gloss on an everyday basis, then you're doing too much. Tone it down: All you really need is a great mascara, concealer for acne and gloss.
  5. Natural hair is always hot If you have super dark hair, lighten your look by going a shade darker or getting lighter highlights. Blonde? Try highlights, especially around your face. We see too many teens lightening their hair several shades and the look is super tacky, not super fabulous. The trick is to let people assume you were born with sun-kissed hair, not that you gave yourself a bad dye job from a bottle. More hair color tips here.
  6. Vaseline is your best friend Skip the bottled cleaners: Vaseline is the best eye makeup remover hands down. It's also great for fixing chapped, scaly lips. Slather on a bunch of Vaseline, then use a toothbrush to massage lips. Wipe the excess off on a tissue. Your lips will be smooth and soft.
  7. You can never go wrong with layers Layers are great for any hair type: Super curly, straight or wavy. It makes thin hair appear thicker, curly hair appear manageable and wavy hair appear just-got-back-from-the-beach bad word is not allowed.
  8. Acne? Get thee to a dermatologist, stat Biggest mistake people with acne make? Not going to a dermatologist. Forget those $150 jeans you covet. Getting rid of those pimples will be the best investment you'll ever make. And the only guaranteed way to do it is with a dermatologist.
  9. Spend money on key beauty products Not sure what to splurge on and what to save on? Here's our Golden Rules: Don't scrimp on eye shadow, facial moisturizer, powder, self-tanner or lipstick. There's a big difference in quality for these products. Don't waste your money on fancy mascaras, cleansers, eye liners or lip gloss.
  10. Buying foundation or lipstick? Test it first There are some beauty products you simply must try out at a department store or Sephora before you buy. These include: Foundation, lipstick, blush and powder. Buy these products in a grocery store and you'll be lucky if you picked the right color for your skin tone. What you can get away with without testing: Mascara, eye liner, most basic eye shadows and lip gloss.
  11. When can you skip sunscreen ? Never Here's a trick we wish we knew: The first beauty product you should apply every day is sunscreen, even if it's cloudy or rainy outside. Why? Good habits start young and if you use sunscreen now, you'll have gorgeous skin when you're 50, 60, 70. Plus, the sun's UV rays can penetrate clouds.
  12. Wrapping hair around the barrel creates waves There's nothing sexier than long, layered waves. To get them, wind hair AROUND the barrel of a large curling iron. Reverse direction for each 2-inch section (wind up for one, down for another).
  13. Self-tanner will always stink Unfortunately, even the best ones smell. Your best bet is to apply self-tanner a good 24 hours before an important event and take a shower (don't loofah) to wash off any smell.
  14. Don't let nails go Not into manicures and pedicures? No worries. Just make sure to keep nails clean and the same length. If you do want to paint them, don't keep the polish on until half of it's chipped away. Also, there's nothing worse than too-long toenails. Keep nails clipped between pedicures! People tend to judge others by the care they put into their hands and feet.
