Daily Makeup

Applying cosmetics on a daily basis may make the women feel more confident but may not be a good idea for sensitive skin. Only quality products should be used for routine use and choosing cosmetics is an important step towards skin care and health. For daily purposes, powder cosmetics are preferable as they keep the shine under control and have lesser preservatives and skin irritants than liquid ones. If liquid foundation is an item you cannot possibly cross out, opt for one with a silicone base as it does not cause acne. The makeup remover to clean out waterproof cosmetics also wipes out the protective layer of sebum from the skin, so use waterproof cosmetics only occasionally.

Never use cosmetics that have crossed their expiry dates. Normally, life span of mascaras is about three to four months, foundations and lipsticks last for one year while powder and eye shadows last for about two years. It is also important to wash and clean brushes and sponges regularly. Black mascaras and eyeliners are dramatic and also the least allergenic of all colorants. Pencil eyeliner and eyebrow pencils that are wax based should work for daily use and they can be cleaned off using only water. Light earth tones not only give you a natural look but are less likely to cause skin irritation than the darker colors.

Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor 15 or higher and ingredients such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to avoid harmful effects of UVA rays. Cosmetics with fewer ingredients are much safer, so for daily use, opt for cosmetics that have no more than 10 ingredients. Remember, nail polishes are not for daily use. For a quick pedicure, scrape the dead skin off the soles of your feet after shower using an emery board, rub them over with lotion or olive oil or petroleum jelly and push back the cuticles of your toenails. To maintain them, wear socks all the time. If socks make you feel hot, cut the toe section and ankle section of your socks. You can do a quick manicure in a similar fashion too and maintain them by wearing socks or gloves at night.

Day and Evening Makeup

You must have heard several times that the day makeup should be light and simple while you are free to use bolder colors for an evening party and use lots of sheer and gloss. This usually causes the myth that it is the colors that make all the difference in the day and evening makeup. Well, the truth is that it is the lighting that makes all the difference. Here we will discuss how different light sources can present us differently. Most of the big corporate offices have bright fluorescent lighting and people generally use incandescent lighting at home. Fluorescent light is a blue light that sharpens all colors while incandescent light is a yellow or red light than tends to soften all colors. So, we must do our makeup accordingly.

In fluorescent light, people with blue eyes will look more reddish while people with brown eyes will appear yellowish or greenish. Photographer uses soft and warm red-toned incandescent lights. While doing portraits to hide imperfections and make you look flawless. Thus, for day makeup, when most of the people are at work with fluorescent lights or bright sunlight, which makes everything appear clearly, we must use more sheer, natural and neutral colors and their combinations so as not to appear dramatic or wearing a mask. While in the evening or in parties with incandescent lights, you can add more contrast to your face by using slightly brighter and bolder colors.

For under lit areas such as dancing clubs and nightclubs with little lighting, we use a lot of makeup, very bold colors and over dramatic styles so that it is easily available to others. Similarly, theatre artists and stage artists wear a lot of makeup, so that it is visible when stage lights light up their faces. So, it is not the clock that changes the makeup style but the lighting. Of course, if we have to stay day and night, under same type of lighting, we won’t need to adjust our makeup differently for day and evening but hen, the life will become so dull and boring!

How to Apply Blush – Applying Blush

Step by Step guide to Applying Blush

Decide the color of blush you want to apply on your cheeks. For this check the color of your cheeks bypinching your cheeks and wait for a second or you can match your lip color.

Put the blush into the brush, taping off any excess or put a dab of gel on your fingers. Apply the blusher with a brush, on the cheek, in the shape of a triangle, tapering towards the temples. Blend it outwards and upwards. No lines of demarcation should be visible. It should not have a harsh effect, but rather lend the face a warm, soft glow.

Apply blush brush on apple of your cheeks and gently brush up your cheekbone towards your hairline. Dot cream blush beginning at the apple and blend up the cheekbone towards the hairline.

For a natural look, blend it well down your cheeks.

There are many different kinds of blush (sometimes known as rouge, but you love the word blush because the way you apply the color is to give the impression that you are blushing, that you have a flush of color).

Blush comes in powder, liquid or cream. I prefer a water based cream blush for the first application in the morning, and the powder blush for re-touching during the day, because the cream blush goes on smoothly, is absorbed nicely into your skin, and will last for some time, and you can put powder blush over it anytime during the day.

If you start out your day with powder blush, you cannot retouch with the cream because it will cake and/or blotch on your face. Always start by using a little blusher and gradually build color to get the desired effect. Remember, it is always easier to add more to get the vibrant look. Also, if you apply powder blush on skin that has only foundation on it, it may splotch-the moisture in your skin will grabm it in different places and it will be so spotty, chances are you’ll have to start allover again.

Powder blush is most effective over a foundation and cream blush on an already powdered face.

As far as color is concerned, I have found that the best idea is to have one blush you can wear almost anytime and with everything. This is a blush that compliments your skin tone and is in the color range of your skin.

When choosing the cream blush and the powder blush, make sure that the cream is a shade darker than the powder because it will be absorbed into your skin and may come down a shade or two, whereas the powder blush will sit on your skin and hold its color.

How to Apply Blush – Tips

Tip 1: Its best to apply blush knowing the shape of the face.

  • For a long, narrow face: Apply the color lesser than the lower edge of the cheekbone and keep the angle horizontal for such a face to create the width of the face.
  • For round, square face: Apply color in the middle of the face. Don’t get close on the nose.
  • For skin look clearer: Apply blusher to the apple of your cheeks. Blend it back but don’t go further than the corner of the eye.

Tip 2: Dusky pink blush warms up any tired looking skin.

Tip 3: Wash brushes regularly with a make up remover or non- soap cleanser.

Makeup Application Tips

To make sure you select the right color foundation, choose three shades that you think are about right and stick each one over your face and under your jaw lines. Only one will completely disappear on your skin and that is the color you should bye.
Ignore out-of-date taboos – when it comes to color anything goes. If you want an natural look, stick to shades traditionally associated with your skin tone ( warm tones for yellow based skins and color once for pink skins ), but if you really want to make an entrance, choose the opposite extreme. Redheads, for example will make a far bolder statement in cool aqua eyeshadow or a piercing pink lipstick than in an earthy brown.
Hair is a slightly more complex equation, as your skin tone will always limit your results. Blonde hair against a very olive skin can leave you looking nauseous, while raven locks on an English rose will look more go thick than alluring.

How to Apply Pencil Eyeliner

Learning how to apply eyeliner is an essential step in pulling your look together. Properly applied eyelinercan help define your eyes and give a polished look. However, if you’re not careful, it can easily transform your appearance from classy to trashy. Here are instructions on how to apply pencil eyeliner for a pretty, natural look:

1. Color selection plays a big role in the final outcome. For everyday looks, brown is the most natural color for most people. However, if your hair is very dark, you can get away with black. Charcoal is another nice, universal option. If your eyes are green, a dark plum will make them pop.

2. Begin with the upper lid and a sharpened pencil. You need a heavier hand and a sharper tip for the upper lid. After using the pencil on your upper lids, the tip will soften a bit, making it perfect for lining the lower lid. If your pencil is very hard or waxy, warm it slightly with your fingers or hot water so it will glide better.
Vanity

3. Place the tip at the inner corner of your upper eyelid as close to the lash line as possible. Begin where your eyelashes begin or about one-fourth of the way in. Follow the lash line with the pencil all the way to the outer corner. As you reach the outer corner, you can press harder to make the line a little darker and thicker as it goes out.

4. Repeat this process on the lash line underneath the eye, but use a much lighter touch and work from the outside in. Remember the line should be thickest at the outside so gently lighten your touch as you work inward. Stop about three-fourths of the way toward your nose. Then grab a cotton swab and use it to lightly blend the line, starting from the inner corner and working outward, so that it looks more like a shadow than an obvious line.

5. You can connect the top and bottom lines on the outer corner of the eye, but don’t do this on the inner corners or it will make your eyes appear smaller. Regardless of how much eyeliner you apply, be sure it is even and blended – not rough and jagged. You can use an small, angled flat brush to smooth out any problem areas.
