Eye Care

Eye Care is a serious concern that is often neglected by people who lack health insurance.

Caring for Eye Care
Eye Care is an important factor in all of our lives. We sometimes take sight for granted but can you imagine not being able to see everyday things normally. Imagine not being able to see your kids, too watch TV, too take a walk and see all of nature is beauties. People with certain eye diseases are not able to enjoy these experiences to their full extent and sometimes not at all. There are several reasons for people to start learning more about eye health and how to protect our sight. There are not only personal reasons but financial reasons as well because the cost of eye care affects everyone. As the Baby Boomer generation ages and faces more eye problems, the need for eye care will be much greater.

Personal Reasons of Eye Care
Eye care is essential to maintaining the health of our eyes. People with eye diseases that greatly affect their vision face many problems. They are physically hampered by impaired vision. They are not able to perform daily activities like driving or working. Some are barely able to see or have lost their vision entirely. They are also faced with emotional stress. People with dramatic eye problems face many issues that can lead to solitude and depression. This strain also affects friends and families.

They are not able to enjoy everyday moments or special events. Eye problems can also be very costly to individuals. The need for eye wear, eye surgeries, and other needs can greatly affect a person or a family is income. Some people are not even able to work because of their eye problems. There are several steps everyone can take to help prevent eye diseases and the problems related to them. It starts with knowledge of keeping the eye healthy and following good guidelines for maintaining good eye health.

There are many eye diseases that can be prevented or whose progression can be slowed down with proper precautions and healthy eating. Eating a lot of Vitamins A, E, C, and some Zinc and Selenium can help prevent many diseases including those that affect the eyes. Visit the nutrition page on what foods contain these vitamins and minerals. Certain diseases might be causes by other factors such as obesity, diabetics, exposure to ultraviolet light, smoking, certain medications such as steroids, and many other factors. It is a good idea to ask your eye care doctor for specific steps you can take. People with obesity or who are diabetic should have more routine checkups since they are more likely to develop certain eye diseases.

Those who are outside most of the day should use protective sunglasses or eyeglasses to prevent heavy exposure to ultraviolet light. People who smoke or take certain medications should ask their doctor if they are more likely to have eye diseases because of family background. These little measures can help your eyes healthy and keep all the emotional, physical, and financial problems that come with eye problems away.

Find the Right Lenses for You

Not sure which CooperVision lens is right for you? No problem! Just answer a few simple questions, and we well recommend the CooperVision lens that best addresses your particular vision and performance needs.

Of course, please keep in mind that these are just suggestions. Your eye care professional will want to talk with you and likely give you an eye exam before making a final determination of which CooperVision lens is the right choice for you.

Colored contact lenses have become more and more popular as they become more affordable and accessible. (Not to mention the rising popularity of all the light-eyed celebrities: Ashwariya Rai, Hrithik Roshan, Karisma and Kareena Kapoor, and so forth.). Similarly, more and more people are also going for the more subtle vision correction method: prescription contact lenses. Whether they are colored or prescribed, many brides will wear contact lenses on their wedding day.

For all those who wear lenses, itchy eyes, protein build-up and rewetting drops is nothing new. We at SeasonsIndia.com have put together some tips which will help you to minimize irritation and keep your eyes healthy.

Dark Circle under Eyes

A woman expresses herself through her eyes and therefore you have to take special care to make them more expressive and beautiful. We bring you tips that will help you take care of your eyes and much more.

Dark Circle Under Eyes

Dark circles occur under eyes due to a combination of reasons. It is noticeable under the eye, as people get older. As we age and receive more sun damage to our facial skin, the thin skin under the eye can become thinner and wrinkled, which allows the veins in the fat pad under the eye to become more prominent. As the skin here is slightly darker than the rest of your face, any changes in health show up immediately in this delicate area. Some people think that they occur because they are either tired, or as a result of sun exposure. This is not typically the case. Sometimes the dark spots can be hormonal, but often they are just hereditary.

Sometimes the dark spots are caused by the reflections or shadows cast by the bulges of fat that occur naturally in the lower eyelids as people get older. If the bulging of fat is the cause of the dark circles under the eyes, then cosmetic surgery to remove the fat bags is the only approach that is typically effective, other than concealer makeup. There are many contributing factors that make dark circles around the eyes more noticeable.

Age - The skin covering the eyelids thins out as we age and starts to loose its elasticity. With the skin being thinner the blood vessels underneath become more apparent. To assist in collagen formation and re-vitalizing your fragile skin around the eyes - please consider taking an extra vitamin C (ascorbic acid) supplement, after checking with your medical practitioner.

Heredity - Tendencies such as allergies or thinner eyelids pass on from generation to generation.

Allergies - Although allergies are often the blame for dark circles, anything that causes chronic nasal obstruction can be the culprit. You might not have a major medical reaction to an allergen, such as wheezing, couching, sneezing or a closed chest - you could simple have a slightly stuffy nose, or swollen eyes most of the times. Tests can be done to determine environmental or food allergies with a simple skin scratch test, a blood test or other alternative types of testing. If you have any of the tests done, and they come up positive for any item that you could avoid as far as possible, go the extra mile and try to cut the allergen out of your sphere of living - be that either environmental or food in origin. Vitamin C is effective in fighting allergies.

Fatigue, tiredness or lack of sleep - Plain tiredness will also add to the problem of bags under your eyes, and especially to those ugly dark circles under the eyes. Have a look at the amount of hours you sleep and also check on the amount of hours you work in front of your computer or watch television - both these actions place a tremendous strain on your eyes.

Smoking - You might not smoke yourself, but even secondary smoke can affect the way your eyes look. Most people will have a violent reaction to smoke, such as the eyes turning bloodshot or watery, while others will manifest their allergy as swollen eyes. Take vitamin C as smoking kills off large amount of this vitamin, every time you light up.

Ingesting excess salt or sodium

¨C Try and cut down on eating raw salt as it could add to your problem with water retention.

Fluid retention - Fluid retention can be a major cause of swollen eyes. Vitamin C is a natural diuretic and an increase in this vitamin will not only assists in removing excess water from your body, but will also assist with collagen formation.

Other reasons of dark circles are menstruation, pregnancy, thyroid and over exposure to the sun.

Following are few treatments for dark circle that will help alleviate or conceal them.

  • Dip a cotton swab into freshly extracted mint juice, rosewater or cold milk. Lie down with your feet raised higher than your head, and then place the wet pads on your closed eyes. Stay that way for 10 minutes. Do this everyday and you will start seeing results before long.
  • Gently massage saffron or almond oil on the dark area before going to bed.
  • Lie down and place a slice of cucumber or potato on each eyelid for about fifteen minutes.
  • Follow a diet rich in iron, vitamins and proteins. Deficiencies immediately show up as circles under the eyes.
  • You can also use a mixture of almond oil or cucumber juice with lemon juice to lighten dark circles.

Drink lots of water and get plenty of rest.

Exercise for the eyes

  1. Sit down and relax. Breathe normally, and look at a spot between your eyes, above the bridge of your nose. Keep looking at this spot for a count of five, and then relax the eyes. Next look at the tip of your nose, also to the count of five and relax. This exercise will ease the stress and tension and will relax your eyes.
  2. Sit down and relax and look straight in front of you. Inhale and look right as far as possible, without turning your head. Slowly come to the original position and exhale. Repeat the same method for the left side. Do this exercise three times.
  3. Sit up straight and look down. Slowly inhale and start rolling your eyes to the right and then to the top, in a circular movement. When your eyes have reached the top, looking towards your eyebrows, start exhaling while moving your eyes left and downwards in a circular movement. Repeat three times

Eye Care Tips

  • Take A vitamin diet to make eyes brighter. (papaya, eggs, fish, milk, cilantro etc.,)
Wash eyes with cold water to get sparkling eyes.
  • Put sliced cucumber over your eyes to treat dark circles.
  • Put potato slices on your eye to get rid off those dark circles.
  • Soak amla overnight in water and use this water the next morning to wash the eyes.
  • Soak cotton in Luke warm milk and cover eyes with it for 15 min.
  • To soothe tired eyes, dip cotton pads in chilled milk and place on closed eyes for 10 minutes. Now relax completely.
  • To completely relax the eyes and the surrounding muscles, close your eyes and think of something that is pleasant or soothing and at a distance. Now gently open your eyes and look into the distance. Next focus on an object at arm's length. Do this extremely relaxing exercise four or five times a day.
  • If your eye twitches, or your eyes are red and feeling itchy, massage your scalp with curd.
  • Soak 1 tsp. dry amla in one cup of water overnight. Next morning strain it through a muslin cloth and then add one extra cup of water. Splash your eyes with this solution each morning. This makes your eyes sparkle.
  • For Puffy Eyes: Grate a potato with its peel and apply on your closed eyelids for about 20 minutes and relax completely. You may even take a nap.

  • Wash your face before sleeping, and ensure that there is no make-up on your face before you sleep, because, make-up creams may spoil your face as it will be there for the whole night. It is better if no cream is applied. What I feel is, wash your face before sleeping and if at all you want to apply any cream, just apply night cream and none other than that.

Vitamins & Herbs For Healthy Eyes

For Red Irritated Eyes:

Eyebright Solution:

  • 2 tablespoons eyebright herb (Euphrasia)
  • 2 cups of hot water
  • 2 cotton balls
  • Steep the herb in water for 3 minutes or until cooled. Strain. Dip a cotton ball into the liquid and wipe eyes. Reduces redness.

Improves Night Vision

Mix together 30 drops of Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) with 8 ounces water, drink 3 times a day. Or drink 2 glasses of blueberry juice a day.

Improve Weak Eyes

Relieve Eyestrain:

Place slices of cucumber over closed eyes for 15 minutes. Its cooling and refreshing to the eyes.

Reduce Swelling or Puffiness:

Use green tea that has steeped for five minutes and cooled. Wipe the eyes with this solution several times a day.

Drinking tea helps to deter cataracts.

Vitamins and Minerals For Eyes:

Vitamin A : Improves night vision. Food Source for vitamin A is dark green leafy vegetables, carrots, spinach, broccoli, eggs, cheese and butter are also great sources.

Vitamin B complex is good to reduce redness in eyes and can help eyes that are sensitive to light. Food Sources for vitamins B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B6 (pyridoxine), B12 (cobalamin): pastas, breads, milk, dark green vegetables, mushrooms, tuna, nuts, avocados, bananas, liver.

Carotene allows the formation of visual purple in the eyes, which helps improve weak eyes. A good source of carotene is: carrots, broccoli, cabbage and peas.

Life Style and Eyes

For Athletes
Keep in mind that an athlete may still require protection against injuries during contact sports, no matter which type of vision correction he chooses. If there is any risk of being hit by a fast-moving ball or other object (as in racquetball, squash, hockey, etc.), eye protection is highly-recommended, whether you are wearing contacts or not. A polycarbonate eyeguard will not distort vision.

While some manufacturers have develSoped contact lenses that offer protection from ultraviolet rays, many lenses do not. In any case, sunglasses or dark goggles should be worn to protect the eyes in sunlight outdoors, particularly in such sports as swimming, skiing or ice-skating where they may be a lot of glare.

Performers & Actors: contactlenses on stage
Contact lenses provide a double benefit to the active lifestyles of performers, who may need to change or enhance their appearance while dancing, acting or participating in dramatic activities that may be as vigorous as a major league baseball game.

Before colored contact lenses were available to the public, movie stars were using them to change their eye color. Audrey Hepburn won an Academy Award for Wait Until Dark in 1967, in which she played a blind woman, wearing lenses specially designed to make her appear so.

Computer Use and Eyes
Instead of starring on the silver screen, or slugging home runs out of Fenway Park , a great number of people spend the majority of their workday in front of a computer screen. By one estimate, nearly 90 percent of those people working at a video display terminal (VDT) experienced some form of vision problem as a result.

How do you tell if your symptoms are related to your computer use?

VDT-related symptoms occur some time after you start work. As the workday progresses, your symptoms will become more acute. What are the symptoms that are related to computer use?
  • Difficulty focusing after working at a computer, with blurry or double vision
  • Eyestrain or eye fatigue
  • Headaches or backaches
  • Dry and/or irritated eyes
  • Neck stiffness or discomfort
  • After-images when looking away from the screen
  • Sensitivity to lighting
  • Muscle spasms

Are there environmental factors that could affect your symptoms?
  • Bright lights in your peripheral field of vision could add to discomfort or reduced visual performance.
  • Reflected light on your computer screen can decrease the contrast of screen characters and possibly force you to assume an awkward position to see around the glare.
  • The location of your screen could cause awkward positioning.
  • To determine the cause of your symptoms, you should visit your eye care professional. Before going to your appointment, however, take note of the environment in which your symptoms occur and at what times they are greatest. This will aid your doctor greatly in the diagnosis.

If computer eyestrain is the diagnosis, there are simple methods to ease the discomfort:
  • don't focus on a single object for a prolonged period of time;
  • improve the lighting around your monitor;
  • blink often;
  • frequently close your eyes, then look far into the distance (down a hallway or out a
  • window) every 15-20 minutes to relax them;
  • sit at least 18-28 inches away from the screen;
  • tilt the monitor slightly below eye level; and
  • keep your screen dust-free to minimize visual interference.

Nails, Steps for Basic Care and Stunning Presentation

Selecting A Nail Polish

For the perfect looking nails, you need to take proper care of them. Dirty nails are quite repulsive and clean and polished nails can make your hands one of your best features.

Nail polish comes in thousands of shimmering rich colors and are these days available in quick drying formulas that stay longer to make your nails look stylish always. It is very important that you let each layer of nail paint dry, before applying another coat on it. To quicken the process, you can use the branded quick drying formulas, readily available in the supermarkets. It always handy to keep a cotton bud by your side to remove excess nail varnish on the top of the bottle, as it will prevent of it being glued shut by the drying of the color. You can easily get a coordinated look while doing makeup by visiting a cosmetic saloon and trying out nail polishes that compliment your lip color.
Some beauty product companies, even offer makeup kits that have eye shadows, mascaras, lip liners, lipsticks, blushes and nail polishes that harmonize with each other well for making your makeup choices much more easier. There are quick drying formulas and strong longer lasting formulas to choose from. Speed-dry nail polishes dry quickly of course, but on the other side, they chip easily too. They should be used only in emergencies and should not be included in your daily makeup kit. Strong and longer lasting nail polishes are chip-resistant and do not need frequent touch-ups and are thus pretty good for daily purposes. If you are in a hurry and need a quick manicure for our nails, opt for light or sheer shades. Always store your nail polish in a refrigerator though a cool dry place is still a better option.
Solid color manicure is the most basic and simplest of all. Basic neutrals and mild nail colors are best for first meetings and job interviews. If you are wearing open-toed sandals, you can also apply the same shade on your toenails for the stylish look. Match your nail polish with your outfit. For an easy pick, try choosing the shade that is the second most common in your clothes to emphasize it. Since black and silver lend a bold look so use it only while dating, going to the parties or when you are going on outgoing with your family and friends. Become a craze in your school or college by doing you nails in school colors. You can try painting one nail in one color entirely and then use another color to paint the next nail and so on or paint the body of the nail with one color and tips with another. Dare to paint the nail in one color and the mascot of your school on it in another color.

Nail Growth Ideas

Enhancing Nail Growth
Rub the fingernails of one hand across the nails of the other hand for about 5 minutes each day. This will increase nail growth.
Strong cleaning products and the sun can break your nails. Use a sun block cream while going out into the sun. While doing household chores use a pair of gloves. Use a good moisturizer on your hands each night before going to bed.
Corners of your nail should not be filed. Filing them will weaken the nail and they will break easily.
Food rich in potassium, iron, calcium and vitamin B are especially good for your nails. Almonds, garlic, spinach celery, yogurt, eggs and seafood are good for your nails.
Drinking insufficient water can cause your nails to break.
If your nails are brittle then do not use perfumes that contain alcohol, as this will further deteriorate the condition of your nails.
Use four fingers of the opposite hand and knead each finger from the tip to the bottom of each finger. It will relax your fingers.
Almonds contain fatty acids that are good for your nail. Eat 6 almonds a day and your nails will visibly improve.
To prevent yourself from biting your nails, make a paste of the gel from one fresh aloe leaf by double boiling it in a pan. Put into a jar and apply this paste on your nails to prevent biting. Ingesting too much of this paste will cause vomiting.
To encourage nail growth massage the cuticle and nail with your finger tips.
Some don'ts of good nail growth

Weekly Nail Care Tips

Recently beauty treatment and cosmetic treatment for nails has increased. Giving your hands and nails a manicure is taking care of them. This should be done once every week. You should visit a manicurist regularly as they will give you the best advise on how keep your nails healthy.

Guidelines for your nail care weekly:
It takes hardly half an hour weekly to care of your nails to ensure they glow and are healthy throughout the year.
To begin with remove your nail polish. Dip cotton in nail polish remover and press over your nail to soften the polish. With one firm movement, move the cotton from the base of the nail to the tip. Continue till all the polish is removed.
Use a file or emery board to shape your nails. Begin from the corner to center, move the file in one direction only. Do not change directions and this will cause the nail to split and break.
To remove dirt soak your hands in warm soapy water for a few minutes. Clean under the nail using orangewood stick.
The skin that grows onto the end of the nail is the cuticle. These days it is advised that the cuticle not be pushed back as it prevents infection of the nail.

Apply a coat of clear nail polish. Once it dries apply a coat of color polish. Let it dry and then apply clear nail polish as topcoat to strengthen the nail and prevent nail polish from chipping.
Apply moisturizer on hands and cuticle to prevent the nail from splitting.
Home manicures should be done once a week and they take only 15-20 minutes. It is better you visit a professional manicurist once in 4-6 weeks.

The Basics - Foot Care Tips

Let's make it short and sweet. These basic foot care tips are pretty easy to remember. Even easier to do. Best of all, your feet will love you for following them.
  1. Wash your feet daily. Use lukewarm water, a mild soap or antibacterial soap. Rinse off all the soap and dry thoroughly. Make sure you get between the toes too! You can do this while bathing or sitting down. You may even try a long handled brush like a shower back brush. We don't recommend you sit on the edge of the bathtub. Be safe! You might also want to have a look at Foot Baths for some more ideas here.
  2. Keep your toe nails trimmed. Make sure you trim your nails straight across and not too short. Don't go cutting or digging them into the corners either. That's just asking for trouble. Ingrown toe nails are really not fun. Trimming will be a lot easier too if you do this just after you've finished bathing or washing your feet.
  3. Dry Skin? You can use a moisturizing lotion to help with this. This can be helpful in dry climates or different times of year that are drier than others. A small amount of generic lotion applied a few times a day can help you.
  4. Inspect your feet regularly. You may want to get a friend to help you look at those 'harder to see' parts. Funny how there's more of those as we get a little more 'mature'! Let your health care professional know if any unusual signs persist. Catching them early is important.
  5. No self treatment that includes trying to trim, shave or dissolve corns or calluses. See your doctor and get the proper remedies.
  6. Wear clean socks. Change your socks or stockings daily. Make sure they are not too tight or too short.
  7. Wear shoes that fit! Seems so simple but just making sure of this makes a world of difference to your foot health.
  8. Walk daily!. Yup. Another really simple foot care tip. The mere act of walking gives your feet exercise. That exercise goes a real long way in keeping your feet healthy.

Tips on Nail Care

Wear gloves when washing the dishes or scrubbing dirt because immersing hands in water & coming into contact with chemicals found in most cleaning agents can make nails brittle:

  1. Apply a good hand & nail lotion on your hands & nails to protect & moisturize them. Dry nails tend to crack & split.
  2. Give a shine to the nails by massaging coconut oil or warm castor oil on them.
  3. File your nails instead of clipping them (unless you need to shorten a big part) at a 45-degree angle. A good clipping moment would be after a shower or bath where nails are much softer or you can also soak your hands in a bowl of lukewarm water first before you clip. Avoid filing deep into the corners.
  4. Remove all nail polish every week and allow nails to breathe.
  5. Dip a cotton-tipped swab in hydrogen-peroxide or clean under the nails, to whiten them.
  6. Before a manicure dip your nails in a cup of warm water with one tablespoon of lemon juice added to it.
  7. Vitamin C and Vitamin D are important for nails. So, lemon, orange, cabbage, milk are good food in this regard. Iodine improves blood circulation in the nails. So, iodine in any form may be good for nails.

Nail painting

  • Painting nails can protect them from being damaged, to a certain extent. You see, colored nail polish blocks light from the nails & to some people, this would prompt fungal growth on their nails.
  • Give every nail 3 strokes of polish, starting either from the center-left-right or from right-center-left, it's really about preference.
  • Add a top coat (clear nail polish) to protect the polish & keep nail under wraps away from the sun.
  • Use acetone-free nail varnish remover. Acetone (alcohol) dries nails & can make them brittle over time.
  • A bottle of nail polish should be kept in a cool & dry place, out of the sun.

Tips for better hair removal

If you want to remove your hair in way that the skin remains soft and there is no hint of rough strands of hair, here are some tips you can use.

First of all make sure that the blade you use is sharp enough as if the blade is worn out it does not remove all hairs. Before you start with the hair removal process, you should soak them in warm water for at least a period of three minutes. This will soften them and will open the hair follicles thereby relaxing the skin. Also they will not wear out the blade.

Try using a hair conditioner before shaving them off as it makes the hair soft and easy to shave. Do not remove the hair when you have just gotten up after sleeping. This is because the body fluids during the sleep make the hair a little puffy. Never use a perfume or deodorant as soon as you shave you hair, this is because it will cause some irritation.

Try waxing instead of shaving as it is a much longer lasting process. For waxing the best bet would be one-use waxed stripes. Avoid the use of hot wax at home as it can burn the skin and can also cause some other problems.

After you remove the hair, use some baby oil to calm the skin down and prevent any type of irritations.

Finally if you are not game for hair removal, the best thing would be to bleach them. It will lighten them to suit the skin color and render them unnoticeable. However maker it a point to use only body hair bleaches.

All these tips will help you to get rid of problems like leftover hairs and sore skin. Once you remove your hair using these tips you will get better results

How long can you keep makeup?

How long can you keep makeup?

Many women don't know that makeup expires, or even realize that there is a concept of "makeup safety." They believe their makeup will last forever if it's properly stored. The truth is that all makeup eventually goes bad. When mascara dries up and clumps, lipstick runs and foundations separates, these are signs that your makeup has expired. How long to keep your makeup is important for a number of reasons.

Time to throw it away?

To better understand cosmetic shelf life, you need to know what to look for in your favorite makeup products and brands. While there are certain cosmetics that have a longer shelf life than others, all of your makeup will eventually go bad over time. Take note of these tips on makeup safety. How Long to keep it and proper storage methods to lengthen your makeup shelf life is worth consideration.

Foundations

Keeping makeup beyond the expiration date can cause a number of skin conditions. This is especially true with expired foundations. The best way to tell is by looking for the expiration date, which can be found by a small symbol on the bottle or box displayed as 2m, 6m, 10m or 12m. This stands for the shelf life after opening. For instance, 2m means the makeup is good for 2 months after opening.

Ever notice how liquid makeup tends to separate, leaving the darker compound on the bottom and an oily clear compound on top? This is a sign that your foundation has expired and is breaking down. Simply shaking the foundation bottle to recombine its contents cannot repair the fact that the foundation is too old. Toss it.

Think about it this way. Even if shaking the bottle will recombine the foundation after separating, the fact that it separated in the first place should tell you that it will most certainly separate on your face. Expired foundation is infamous for leaving an oily film on your face when it separates. This separation also makes the foundation run or rub off easily.

This oily residue produced by the separation can also contribute to acne and other skin irritations by clogging pores and over time causing blackheads, especially if you don't wash the oily residue off every day. Properly cleaning and moisturizing your skin regularly is a no-brainer, your skin doesn't need the extra irritation that the use of expired makeup will cause.

Eye Makeup Safety

With regard to how long you should keep eye makeup, consider the following tips to help you avoid eye infections. There are a number of health issues that involve expired or prolonged usage of eye makeup. The biggest concern is infections and other potential damage eye makeup (such as eyeliners, eye shadows and mascara) can cause.

  • While pencil eyeliners do not expire, there is a health issue surrounding prolonged usage. Liquid eyeliners do expire. You can find the expiration date on the bottom of the bottle or on the product box. All eyeliners attract bacteria. If not properly stored with a cap, your eyeliner can transfer bacteria laden eyeliner bacteria to your eyes. This bacteria is directly related to "pink eye" types of infections, sties and tear duct blockage. Eyeliners are cheap, so you can afford to replace them frequently. Replace pencil eyeliners every three to six months and make sure you sharpen frequently for safety's sake.
  • Eye shadows have a longer cosmetic shelf life. With the proper compact case to protect your eye shadow from bacteria and dirt, and stored in a cool location away from extreme heat, your eye shadow can last up to a year or more. While some women discard eye shadow when it brakes up, hardens or loses its color intensity, other women simply replace eye shadows as needed.
  • Mascara, on the other hand, requires constant replacement, and is a major makeup safety issue. You know when your mascara is clumpy and has an odd smell, it's time to get a new tube. Mascara has a high risk of collecting dangerous makeup bacteria like eyeliner, however the risk is much greater for women who share mascara. To avoid eye infections, don't share your mascara and replace it frequently.

Lipsticks and Glosses

Lipsticks and glosses have a shelf life of six to twelve months. Depending on the quality of your lipstick, it can last longer, as long as you keep it covered and away from hot temperatures. How long you should keep lip makeup also depends on the type of storage and applicator system used. Regular lipstick tubes (with direct application) usually hold for about a year or more, whereas lipstick or gloss tubes with built in lip sponges or brushes last at least three to six months. When your lipstick is no good, most often it will run and sometimes stain your lips.

Since most women share lipsticks and glosses, the infection rate for lip sores and chapping is much higher. While using a lipstick brush may reduce transmission of infections as opposed to your finger or direct application, there's still a high risk factor. Make sure you avoid sharing lipsticks and gloss, don't use your finger to apply and frequently replace lip brushes to cut down your chances of transmitting makeup bacteria and infections.

Makeup gives us as women, a feeling of glamour and accentuated beauty. Women should not only be concerned with how good they look, but about makeup safety and how long to keep makeup. Using old expired makeup can end up having the opposite effect you intended in the first place.

Winter Care – Prevent Your Skin From Getting Dry

So winter has arrived. Its well known fact that winter has most adverse effects than any other season on out skin. So lets take some care of our skin in winters.

Face:

You have to follow your daily routine of CTM( Cleansing + Toning + Moisturizing).

Get intense moisturizer if your skin is more dry and have some light cold cream too.

But if your skin is oily, stick to moisturizer only.

Home Remedies for Face(Moisturizing):

Honey is a pack which suits every one. It is best moisturizing pack (search fast facials for instructions).

If you can get some avocado take out the pulp, add some honey, it makes the excellent moisturizing pack for winters.

You can do it up to 5 times a week if your skin is too dry, otherwise 2 times a week makes skin supple and soft.

Home Remedies (Cleanser):

Raw unboiled milk works good as a cleanser for all skin types in winter.

If your skin is too dry, search out homemade cleansers (posted previously).

Use banana-cream-honey cleanser( mentioned in homemade cleansers).

Home Remedies (Toner):

Rose water is suitable for all skin types in all seasons as a toner.

Otherwise watermelon juice works great too.

For extra dry skin, just add 2 drops of honey in watermelon juice every time you use it as a toner.

Scrubbing:

In winter lot of dead cells accumulate on our skin. We need to clear them either with scrub or AHAs.

But another problem in winter is skin becomes sensitive towards scrubs and all. So idea is whenever you want to scrub or use AHA, a day before use a moisturizing pack, like honey etc. So your skin wont get rashes, and please be gentle with your skin.

In winters scrub only two times a week, not more than that. Whereas AHAs should be used once in 10 days. If you are using scrubs two times a week, use AHAs once in 15 days.

Hair:

Hairs are very badly affected in winters. Common problems are split ends, dry hair, itchiness of scalp and sometimes dandruff too.

once in a 15 days go for deep conditioning, or else do deep conditioning at home once a week.

For split ends i will post in detail.

You might need to switch your shampoos and conditioners if your hair become too dry. Go for shampoos specially made for dry/damaged hair.

If you have developed itchiness of scalp or dry dandruff, oil your hair three times a week. You can warm the oil and massage gently with your finger tips. Warm oil gets absorbed well.

For oil, you can use plain olive oil, or mixture of olive oil and almond oil.

Once in a week use a hair pack or home made conditioner.

For example use mayonnaise, or mix eggs with Olive oil in a blender and apply. Keep for 20 minutes and wash with shampoo and conditioner.

Always apply conditioner after using the shampoo.

Hands and Feet:

In winters, nails suffer from hang nails. Hang nails is the skin on sides of nails which becomes dry and start peeling off.

Apply hand and nail lotion(or a moisturizer) on your hands at least once in a day. If possible twice a day.

Massaging Mask for Hands and Feet

If your hands and feet are too rough or dry try this.

Pulp of 1/2 avocado
One Egg yolk
1 tsp Honey
Some ground rice(to make it in a paste like consistency, just grind some rice and mix).
2-3 drops of prime rose oil

Mix all above ingredients. Add rice to a quantity so the above mixture is like a paste. Now massage this on your hands and feet. Keep for 20 minutes, and wash off.

*** avocado, egg yolk and honey will provide moisture, and rice will give gentle scrubbing. Prime rose oil has very good results on skin, it will give your skin a natural glow.

****** Do not use this pack on face.

Lips:

Now this is secret, which i am unrevealing.

I tend to have dry lips in winter, even if i use lip balms, creams and all other things too. Then i found out this secret method.

Take some mild facial scrub, and gently scrub your lips with it for a minute GENTLY. Wash off with water and apply moisturizer. Wait for a minute then apply baby oil/lip balm.

This process would remove dead cells, provide moisture and then oil/lip balm would seal the moisture.

This scrubbing on lips should be done only 1-2 times a week, other days you can apply moisturizer followed with oil/lip balm.

Eyes:

Some people also develop some flakes at the base of eyelashes. It looks like dandruff but those are dry cells.
Just apply a bit of olive oil in night before going to bed, they wont occur.

Body:

Most of problematic area like hair, face, lips, hands and feet are already discussed. Rest of your body parts like back, arms, legs, stomach etc. do not have lot of problems in winter. Only problem is they become dry sometimes.

Apply intense moisturizer on your whole body every night, before going to sleep.

You can also apply cold cream on your whole body 1-2 times a week if your skin is too dry.

General Suggestions for Winter

  • Wear sunscreen in winters too, though the sun light is less in winter but it still affects the skin.
  • Do not take bath for long times, bathing for long times can take out all moisture from your body.
  • After bathing immediately apply moisturizer on your whole body, that will seal the moisture in your body.
  • Do not wash your face again and again, two times is enough even if your skin is oily not more than 2 times.
  • Do not use soaps on your face if possible go for mild soap for bath too such as dove, pears etc. or get a shower gel.
  • Use sponge while bathing, it would remove dry and dead cells from body.
  • Drink loads of water because in winters skin needs more moisture.
  • Have lots of green veggies, salads and juices.
  • Never bite the dry skin around nails, rather cut them with a nail cutter.

Make your Feet More Beautiful-Give yourself a Pedicure

You will need:

  1. Nail paint remover
  2. Some cotton balls
  3. Warm water
  4. Big Bowl in which you can soak your feet
  5. Cuticle cream
  6. Shampoo or Mild liquid soap
  7. Nail cutter
  8. Nail filer
  9. Cuticle pusher(Orange Stick)
  10. Cuticle cutter
  11. Pumice stone (or foot scrubber, i personally prefer pumice stone )
  12. Scrub (home made or any branded)
  13. Pack to apply
  14. Nail Paint, if u dont want to apply nail paint get a buffer to buff your nails
  15. Moisturizer
  16. 2 Small towels

Procedure

Dip cotton balls in nail paint remover and clean your nails properly. There should be no traces of nail paint on your nails.

Cut your nails and shape themto your desire.(many people cutand shape their nails after soaking them. But thats wrong, your nails become soft after dipping in water. I agree cutting becomes easy because of softness, but never shape them after a bath or after being in water for sometime, your nails will break like Hell.)

Take some cuticle cream and apply on your cuticles and massage gently for a minute or two.
Add some shampoo or liquid soap to warm water and dip your feet in water. Let them soak for 5-10 minutes.

Now push your cuticles back using an orange stick or cuticle pusher. If your cuticles still remain attached cut them with a cuticle cutter, but be careful with your cuticles. Do not injure yourself.
Using orange stick take out any dirt remaining in nails.

Take the pumice stone and rub the sole of foot properly, you can use foot scrubber instead of pumice stone. Now take small amount of scrub in your hands and apply the scrub on top of feet. Rub gently on your feet.Wash your feet and pat dry with towel.

Take the pack prepared (if your feet are tanned, use any pack mentioned specially for tan) and apply on top side of feet. Let the pack dry and wash off with water. Dry your feet with towel.

Apply nail paint or just buff your nails and voila, your feet look so beautiful.
