Selecting A Nail Polish

For the perfect looking nails, you need to take proper care of them. Dirty nails are quite repulsive and clean and polished nails can make your hands one of your best features.

Nail polish comes in thousands of shimmering rich colors and are these days available in quick drying formulas that stay longer to make your nails look stylish always. It is very important that you let each layer of nail paint dry, before applying another coat on it. To quicken the process, you can use the branded quick drying formulas, readily available in the supermarkets. It always handy to keep a cotton bud by your side to remove excess nail varnish on the top of the bottle, as it will prevent of it being glued shut by the drying of the color. You can easily get a coordinated look while doing makeup by visiting a cosmetic saloon and trying out nail polishes that compliment your lip color.
Some beauty product companies, even offer makeup kits that have eye shadows, mascaras, lip liners, lipsticks, blushes and nail polishes that harmonize with each other well for making your makeup choices much more easier. There are quick drying formulas and strong longer lasting formulas to choose from. Speed-dry nail polishes dry quickly of course, but on the other side, they chip easily too. They should be used only in emergencies and should not be included in your daily makeup kit. Strong and longer lasting nail polishes are chip-resistant and do not need frequent touch-ups and are thus pretty good for daily purposes. If you are in a hurry and need a quick manicure for our nails, opt for light or sheer shades. Always store your nail polish in a refrigerator though a cool dry place is still a better option.
Solid color manicure is the most basic and simplest of all. Basic neutrals and mild nail colors are best for first meetings and job interviews. If you are wearing open-toed sandals, you can also apply the same shade on your toenails for the stylish look. Match your nail polish with your outfit. For an easy pick, try choosing the shade that is the second most common in your clothes to emphasize it. Since black and silver lend a bold look so use it only while dating, going to the parties or when you are going on outgoing with your family and friends. Become a craze in your school or college by doing you nails in school colors. You can try painting one nail in one color entirely and then use another color to paint the next nail and so on or paint the body of the nail with one color and tips with another. Dare to paint the nail in one color and the mascot of your school on it in another color.

Nail Growth Ideas

Enhancing Nail Growth
Rub the fingernails of one hand across the nails of the other hand for about 5 minutes each day. This will increase nail growth.
Strong cleaning products and the sun can break your nails. Use a sun block cream while going out into the sun. While doing household chores use a pair of gloves. Use a good moisturizer on your hands each night before going to bed.
Corners of your nail should not be filed. Filing them will weaken the nail and they will break easily.
Food rich in potassium, iron, calcium and vitamin B are especially good for your nails. Almonds, garlic, spinach celery, yogurt, eggs and seafood are good for your nails.
Drinking insufficient water can cause your nails to break.
If your nails are brittle then do not use perfumes that contain alcohol, as this will further deteriorate the condition of your nails.
Use four fingers of the opposite hand and knead each finger from the tip to the bottom of each finger. It will relax your fingers.
Almonds contain fatty acids that are good for your nail. Eat 6 almonds a day and your nails will visibly improve.
To prevent yourself from biting your nails, make a paste of the gel from one fresh aloe leaf by double boiling it in a pan. Put into a jar and apply this paste on your nails to prevent biting. Ingesting too much of this paste will cause vomiting.
To encourage nail growth massage the cuticle and nail with your finger tips.
Some don'ts of good nail growth

Weekly Nail Care Tips

Recently beauty treatment and cosmetic treatment for nails has increased. Giving your hands and nails a manicure is taking care of them. This should be done once every week. You should visit a manicurist regularly as they will give you the best advise on how keep your nails healthy.

Guidelines for your nail care weekly:
It takes hardly half an hour weekly to care of your nails to ensure they glow and are healthy throughout the year.
To begin with remove your nail polish. Dip cotton in nail polish remover and press over your nail to soften the polish. With one firm movement, move the cotton from the base of the nail to the tip. Continue till all the polish is removed.
Use a file or emery board to shape your nails. Begin from the corner to center, move the file in one direction only. Do not change directions and this will cause the nail to split and break.
To remove dirt soak your hands in warm soapy water for a few minutes. Clean under the nail using orangewood stick.
The skin that grows onto the end of the nail is the cuticle. These days it is advised that the cuticle not be pushed back as it prevents infection of the nail.

Apply a coat of clear nail polish. Once it dries apply a coat of color polish. Let it dry and then apply clear nail polish as topcoat to strengthen the nail and prevent nail polish from chipping.
Apply moisturizer on hands and cuticle to prevent the nail from splitting.
Home manicures should be done once a week and they take only 15-20 minutes. It is better you visit a professional manicurist once in 4-6 weeks.

Tips on Nail Care

Wear gloves when washing the dishes or scrubbing dirt because immersing hands in water & coming into contact with chemicals found in most cleaning agents can make nails brittle:

  1. Apply a good hand & nail lotion on your hands & nails to protect & moisturize them. Dry nails tend to crack & split.
  2. Give a shine to the nails by massaging coconut oil or warm castor oil on them.
  3. File your nails instead of clipping them (unless you need to shorten a big part) at a 45-degree angle. A good clipping moment would be after a shower or bath where nails are much softer or you can also soak your hands in a bowl of lukewarm water first before you clip. Avoid filing deep into the corners.
  4. Remove all nail polish every week and allow nails to breathe.
  5. Dip a cotton-tipped swab in hydrogen-peroxide or clean under the nails, to whiten them.
  6. Before a manicure dip your nails in a cup of warm water with one tablespoon of lemon juice added to it.
  7. Vitamin C and Vitamin D are important for nails. So, lemon, orange, cabbage, milk are good food in this regard. Iodine improves blood circulation in the nails. So, iodine in any form may be good for nails.

Nail painting

  • Painting nails can protect them from being damaged, to a certain extent. You see, colored nail polish blocks light from the nails & to some people, this would prompt fungal growth on their nails.
  • Give every nail 3 strokes of polish, starting either from the center-left-right or from right-center-left, it's really about preference.
  • Add a top coat (clear nail polish) to protect the polish & keep nail under wraps away from the sun.
  • Use acetone-free nail varnish remover. Acetone (alcohol) dries nails & can make them brittle over time.
  • A bottle of nail polish should be kept in a cool & dry place, out of the sun.
